Narragansett and South Kingstown High Among Top Rhode Island Schools in 2024 Niche Rankings

Several Rhode Island schools have been ranked among the best school districts in the U.S. by the education platform Niche.

In their 2024 rankings, Niche evaluated data from numerous public, private, and school districts. Among the top 25 public high schools in Rhode Island, Narragansett High School (No. 4, Grade: A) and South Kingstown High School (No. 15, Grade: B) are included. Niche's ranking methodology is unique as it not only considers test scores and academic performance but also gathers input from students, alumni, and parents. Additionally, it uses data from sources like the U.S. Department of Education to assess factors such as teacher quality, resources, and facilities. The rankings aim to provide families with a comprehensive understanding of schools in various regions.

URI Research Focuses on PFAS 'Forever Chemicals' and Their Impact

PFAS, also known as "forever chemicals," are a group of chemicals found in numerous products. Dr. Rainer Lohmann of the University of Rhode Island has devoted his career to researching PFAS.

Teflon is one of the most recognized PFAS chemicals and has been in use since the 1940s.

While Dr. Lohmann mentions that items like old pizza boxes and microwave popcorn bags have emitted PFAS, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has implemented stricter rules in response to findings that high exposure to these chemicals can lead to various health issues.

Dr. Lohmann hopes for safer alternatives in the future.
